The Sibling Sanctuary

Architecture

Project Brief :

Designed for two sibling families, this project explores a thoughtful model for multi-family living within a dense urban context. To address the lack of on-site parking, the residence is elevated on a large plinth that accommodates six vehicles, transforming the raised ground level into a vehicle-free communal zone. At its center lies a shared courtyard that encourages everyday interaction, celebrations, and a strong sense of family connection. Although the homes are equal in size and amenities, they remain physically separate and are linked through carefully planned connections to balance accessibility with privacy. Screens and vertical louvers filter sunlight, ensure privacy, and create a breathable façade suited to the dense surroundings. A centrally placed Ghar Mandir opening into the courtyard reinforces the home’s role as a shared spiritual and social anchor.
